What Is Select Baseball?
The Panini Select Baseball is the now non-licensed but highly collectible and anticipated baseball trading card product. It is known for its iconic golden-themed design, and this year it comes with a wide variety of very colorful, bold parallels.
It has adopted a tiered-based base set layout, which includes different levels of rarity such as Concourse, Premier, and Field Level (or Diamond Level in baseball).

The 2020 Panini Select Baseball Base Set
The base set comprises 250 cards that are separated into a three-tier system. The Base Concourse (#1-100), The Premier (#101-200), and The Diamond level (#201-250).
Collectors can expect a number of legends and veteran cards along with rookie-exclusive autograph sets to top it all off.
Base Set Parallels: What’s New
The base set of the 2020 Panini Select Baseball comes with a list of parallels, most of which are numbered. It includes parallels, which are differently colored, multi-colored in the form of Tie-Dye and even 1/1 in the form of Gold Vinyl.
There is a very unique Zebra parallel, which is a Hobby Exclusive.
The Base and the Premier levels of the base set checklist share the same set of parallels; however, the diamond level has something exclusive.
The Diamond level hosts Die-Cut cards, which come in Cosmic and Holo variants.
Autograph: The Biggest Hits
As for autographs, there are plenty of choices for set builders. The Two to stand out are definitely the Signatures (#/199 or less) and the Rookie Signatures (#/199).
The absence of the team logos and names will be pretty evident, but collectors can still chase some big name signatures such as Juan Soto (#/25) and Gerrit Cole (#/10) in the Signatures set. It comes with the Hobby-Exclusive Parallel, the Cracked Ice (#/25).
There is more to the Rookie stars in the select baseball with the the Rookie Jersey Signatures (#/209). Game Changers and big hitters have separate X-Factor Materials Signatures and Launch Angle Autographs sets lined up.
Moreover, Sparks Signatures (#/199) with a sparkling backdrop round up the autograph inserts.
Memorabilia: From Player to You
As for Memorabilia exclusive sets, there are not more than three distinct sets.
- 1993 Retro Select Materials—Offers a throwback to the 20 Legends of the game from the year 1993. Features Tony Gwynn, Ozzie Smith, and Cal Ripken.
- Rookie Jumbo Swatch—The Biggest Memorabilia of the set coming directly from the 2020 Rookie class.
- Select Swatches—Offer Select Exclusive game-worn/used jersey with parallels like Cracked Ice (#/25), Gold (#/10) and Gold Vinyl 1/1.
Other Insert Sets
Other Insert Sets include a 25-Man special, in which players like Juan Soto, Mike Trout, and Gerrit Cole steal the show. Hot Rookies set features Die-Cut and Zebra parallel.
Phenomenon, Select Stars, and Sensations enlist 15 entitled players numbered to 15 sequentially, Moon Shots numbered to 20, and Phenoms to 25.
While Artistic Impressions (short print) and Sparks make up the smallest 10-player set in the product.
