What Is Upper Deck Series 2?
Upper Deck Series 2 is a continuation of Upper Deck’s flagship hockey card set, following Series 1.
The purpose to the series 2 is to expand the base set and introduce new rookies, inserts, and parallels.

The 2023-24 NHL UD Series 2 Checklist Overview
The Base set in Series 2 comprises 200 cards (#251-450) after which 50 are Young Guns (rookies) completing a 250 card base set.
Very seldom do you come across a base set that include a Short Print subset, like the one here called “Young Guns” (1:4 packs). As one of the primary selling points, the Connor Bedard Rookie is consistently prioritized at the top of the checklist.
Parallels are a handful and are no more than seven.
The Outburst set takes the lead with two more variations including Red (#’d/25) and Gold (1/1). Other four have their unique characteristics.
- Clear Cut: Found in 1:48 hobby packs; these acetate cards provide a transparent appeal.
- Deluxe: Numbered to 250, offering a limited-edition chase.
- Exclusives: Numbered to 100, these cards are rarer and highly sought after.
- High Gloss: Extremely rare, numbered to just 10.

Autograph: The Biggest Hits
The set is not really autograph forward with only-one, dual-autograph, UD Canvas Signature (#’d/35) featuring two greats of the game—Luc Robitaille (now LA Kings President) and Bernie Nicholls (former LA Kings Coaching Consultant).
Other Insert Sets
In the 2023-24 NHL UD Series 2 checklist, Inserts are the real-heroes.
One UD Portrait insert appears in every seven packs, carrying on the theme from Series 1. The photos are close-ups and have a striking design reminiscent of a late-80s monarch image.
The inserts are diverse, drawing from a variety of technologies. For example, the foil accent cards with colorful backgrounds are called Dazzlers (Printing Plate—Hobby and e-packs Exclusive).
Honor Roll (1:3 packs) is a honorary title plate highlighting standout performances and achievements from the season.
The UD Canvas is a substantial insert set boasting 150 cards, available at a rate of 1 in every 4 packs. It includes various subsets, similar to the base set, including “Young Guns,” “Retired,” and an extra subset called the Program of Excellence, which showcases a canvas of Wayne Gretzky.
Deep Roots (not in series 1) is another ALL-NEW insert, focusing on players who have become foundational to their teams. Comes with a rare Purple Parallel, which lands 1 in 144 hobby packs.
Fluorescence (foilboard) and Highlighters reappear in Series 2.
Fluorescence hits in red (1:36 hobby), gold (#’d/150), blue (#’d/50), pink (#’d/15), and green (#’d/5) with top rookies. Highlighters include players that appeared in the top highlights of the 2022-23 NHL season.
Monster Season (1:14.5 hobby) is an 82-card set dedicated to Connor McDavid’s exceptional 2022-23 season.
ALL-NEWS Ecliptic (1:6 hobby) introduces an astronomical design, capturing mid-action shots of players.
PC’s (1:3.5 Hobby) showcases at least one superstar from each NHL team, celebrating their impact with parallels like Sparkle (1:17 h) and Gold Sparkle (1:411 h).
Popular “Population Count 1000″ comes in parallels 500, 100, 50, 25, 10 and 1 all in acetate forms.
The excitement ramps up with the introduction of the “Day With The Cup” (1:2000 packs) insert in series 2, adding a unique twist that elevates the thrill of the chase to a whole new level.
Walmart’s mega box exclusives showcase rookie Die-Cut specials featuring Logan Cooley, Connor Bedard, and Brock Faber, all inspired by the iconic 1994-95 era.

Upper Deck often includes Easter eggs—unannounced cards that aren’t listed in the official checklist. For Series 2, this includes:
